Invitation to tutors and trainee tutors

Joint Tutors Conference 2017: Training the Trainers What? When? Where? WHAT? We are inviting RoSPA driving tutors across the country to join us for a day conference aiming to explore how we train our Associates and our Tutors. People and Topics We have managed to secure the services of four people with considerable expertise to lead us during the day. Jacquie Prince is an Associate Director of Training at QuintilesIMS. She will introduce us to the various learning styles that adults exhibit and suggest ways in which Tutors can shape their coaching to help individual Associates make the best progress. Reg Local (not his real name!) is a well-known contributor to various driving online forums and has published a series of outstanding YouTube instructional videos on Roadcraft. He is a former advanced police driving instructor and continues to work in advanced driver training in the Greater Manchester area and north-east Lancashire. Reg will be talking about how to teach Roadcraft – and we are sure to pick up all sorts of hints and tips to equip us more thoroughly in our role as tutors and mentors. Gerry Griffin has been a Diploma holder with RoSPA for many years and has broad experience of working in local groups and in the regions. Gerry will act as the facilitator for our open discussion session. Mark Smith has served for many years with Thames Valley Police where he has been a traffic sergeant. Mark is one of RoSPA examining team and is very interested in how local groups teach Roadcraft to drivers. We have asked him to tell us how the various grades in the advanced test are assessed and to share with us issues he regularly sees when examining candidates that are matter of encouragement or of concern. Our final teachers will be you. We hope that we will teach one another the lessons we have learnt and the mistakes we have made. No one is so good that they couldn’t be better, so the day is designed to be a learning opportunity for us all – however little or great our experience. Above all, we aim to ensure that everyone who attends discovers something new and goes home encouraged in their role as a RoSPA Tutor. WHEN? This is the second Joint Tutors Conference we have run. In 2015, we kept things quite local. We weren’t sure how such a conference would be received and we limited our ambition to what we knew we could achieve. Those who attended thought it had been a good event and asked for another. The date we have chosen in Saturday 23 September 2017. The day will run from 10.00 to 16.00 WHERE? We will be meeting at Chieveley, which is well located for transport links at the junction of the A34 and the M4 in Berkshire. HOW DO I REGISTER? Click here Information on how to register and a more detailed pattern of the day are available from www.roadartvg.org.uk/events/conference. Early registration is recommended. We can accommodate about 100 people, and we will register people on a first-come first-served basis.
